A Peek at Next Week:

Writing: Students will write complete sentenes using story starters and a picture to help guide them. 

Reading: Students will read "Gus Takes the Train." 

- Students will identify story elements.

- Students will work with short vowel sounds.

Grammar: Students will continue to work with adjectives.

Math: Students will identify ordinal numbers to the sixth position.

- Students will identify addition facts- doubles with sums to 10.

- Students will identify a rectangle and the number of angles and sides.

- Students will create addition problem situations/sentences.

- Students will look at and identify attributes of pattern blocks. 

Religion: Students will learn about and identify the different types of prayer. Students will also continuing learning/practicing the Glory Be.

Social Studies/Science: Students will learn about and identify the different types of weather. Students will learn about and identify the 4 seasons.

Reading: Students will read "Lucia's Neighborhood." Students will learn about sequencing stories using beginning, middle, and end. Students will also continue to learn about and work with short vowel sounds.

Grammar: Students will learn about and work with adjectives.

Math: Students will identify a number between 2 numbers.

- Students will divide a solid into a half.

- Students will picture and combine sets.

- Students will count 0 to 23.

- Students will write addition sentences.

- Students will represent equivalent forms of the same number. 

Religion: Students will learn about and practice the sign of the cross. We will also continue learning the Glory Be.

Social Studies: Students will review the Pledge of Allegiance and work on implenting it. Students will also learn about and identify the 4 seasons.

Week 3

 Important Information:

Scholastic book orders will be due Friday, September 18th. The orders will be delivered to the classroom, and I will hand them out to go home from there. 

Mass collection envelopes are completely VOULANTARY for all school Masses on Wednesdays. This money will go directly to the Church. 

We will start having weekly UFLI Assessments on Fridays. This is similar to a spelling test, but it's just to show me what they know and if I need to revisit a lesson. We had a practice one today, so the studensts can get familiarized with it.

Early release (1:30) Tuesday, September 8th.

A Peek at Next Week:

Writing: Students will continue learning, understanding, and writing captions. 

Reading: Students will read "Curious George Goes to School." They will then learn about sequencing a story (beginning, middle, and end). 

Grammar: We will begin learning about verbs and action verbs. 

Math: Students will learn about triangles and all their different characteristics, sort different attributes,  and they will practice making shapes. They'll identify "some, some more, some, some went away. Lastly, we will introduce pennies and how to count them. 

Religion: On Tuesday, we will discuss and celebrate Mary's birthday. We will also continue talking about the parts of Mass/things we see at Mass. 

Social Studies: Students will learn what a citizen is and how to be a good one. We will then talk about American symbols. On Friday, students will do a Patriot's Day activity.

Week 2 (8/24-8/28)

 Important Information

Our library day is on Friday! They will only be allowed to check out ONE library book until furthur notice. Please keep their book in a safe spot with their backpack and folder.

Your child will start having homework every night. If we have time in class I may let them complete it or at least get a start on it. I will try to let them complete it on Friday's so there's no weekend homework. 

You guys have been doing an awesome job going through their folders nightly and sending them back the next day. Thank you!

A Peek at Next Week

Writing: Students will distinguish between letters, words and sentences. Students will also learn about writing captions and create some of their own. 

Reading: Students will read "The Storm." Using the story they will identify a character trait of a character from our story with supporting evidence from the text. 

Grammar: We will begin working with possessive nouns.

Math: Students will write numbers 0, 6, 8, and 9. We will learn about ordering numbers from smallest to largest, or least to greatest. They will identify most and fewest. We will also introduce and learn about bar graphs.

Religion: We will start to identify and learn about the things/objects we see in Mass. We're also working on learning the Glory Be prayer. 

Social Studies: Learn about and identify why we have rules in life. Identify and learn ways to be a good citizen. 

Our First Week in First Grade!!

 What an exciting week it has been!💗 We've completed the first week of first grade and my heart is so full!

Our first week was filled with new routines, new friendships, and lots of laughter. We've spent time getting to know one another, learning how our classroom works, practicing procedures, and learning the expectations. 

One of my biggest goals for this year is to create a classroom where every student feels safe, loved, valued, and excited to learn. These first graders are curious, funny, energetic, creative, and very ready to learn!

Of course, the first week wasn't perfect- and it wasn't supposed to be! We practiced, we made mistakes, and we tried again- including myself! 

I'm already so proud of these first graders and everything they've accomplished this first week! I can't wait to see how much they grow- not only academically but also in their confidence, independence, kindness, and love of God. 

Next week, we will jump right into our learning. We will start reading, writing, math, and religion. Here's to the first of many weeks in first grade! I'm looking forward to an amazing year!😊
